Wholesome. Hearty. So Satisfying.
Letโs talk veggie burgers that actually stick together, are packed with flavor, and nourish your body without breaking your grocery budget.
Iโve had my fair share of veggie burgers (some better than others), but this one โ this one โ is my go-to. Itโs protein-packed, filled with fiber, and made with real ingredients your gut will love.
Each patty has about 12 grams of plant-based protein, and thanks to black beans, mushrooms, and spices, itโs full of flavor without the fat and heaviness of traditional burgers. Ready to feel good after you eat?
๐ Hereโs how to make the best Black Bean Burger ever:
Ingredients:
- 1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
- ยฝ green bell pepper
- ยฝ small onion
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled
- 1 large egg (or flax egg if needed)
- โ
cup 100% whole wheat breadcrumbs (or gluten-free option)
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado slices, pickles, cheese
- Chipotle Mayo Sauce: 1 cup mayo + ยฝ tsp chipotle seasoning (blend until smooth, season to taste)
๐ฅ Instructions:
Step 1: Prep the Black Beans
Drain and rinse your black beans. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove extra moisture (this helps the burgers stay together). Place beans in a large bowl and mash well with a fork. You want them mashed, but not pureed.
Step 2: Finely Chop the Veggies
In a food processor, pulse the green pepper, onion, garlic, and chopped mushrooms until finely minced. Then transfer to a fine mesh strainer and press out any extra moisture using the back of a spoon. (Donโt skip this part โ too much moisture = crumbly burgers.)
Step 3: Mix It All Together
Add the strained veggie mix to your mashed beans. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Add the beaten egg and gluten free breadcrumbs. Mix everything until it holds together โ not too wet, not too dry.
Step 4: Form Your Patties
Divide the mixture into 4 even portions. Using your hands, shape them into patties and flatten slightly.
Step 5: Cook Your Way
Choose your method โ stovetop, grill, or oven.
- Grill: Cook on a well-oiled grill over medium heat, 4โ5 minutes per side.
- Stovetop: Heat a little oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium heat, and cook 4โ5 minutes per side.
- Oven: Bake on a lightly oiled lined with parchment paper baking sheet at 375ยฐF for 8โ10 minutes per side.
Step 6: Assemble and Enjoy!
Serve on a whole grain bun or lettuce wrap. Add a spoonful of chipotle mayo, leafy greens, tomato slices, fresh avocado, or your favorite toppings. That creamy avocado? Total game-changer.
